Erin & Walker | Cobourg Outdoor Wedding

This Cobourg outdoor wedding  had all the makings of a classic affair. Vintage bridal gown and dapper groom suited Erin & Walker to a “T”. The Cobourg outdoor wedding ceremony was shot in a local park while the bridal party and bride/groom portraits were shot in Port Hope at the Agricultural Fair – see next blog post for those shots! The groom is American but they still managed to find each other and call Cobourg home. The wedding was an intimate affair which included Erin’s two beautiful children.  We even managed to sneak a couple fishing shots in- a nod to the couple’s love of the sport.

Rouge Park Fall Engagement Shoot

I arrived at Rouge Park for this fall engagement shoot an hour early. As it was a new location for me I wanted to pick out some nice spots for the fall engagement photos. Rouge Park is a lovely setting for an engagement shoot or just to hang out and spend some time with your family. Allison and Sam were so much fun to photograph they were happy to try some posses I suggested and super easy going. The engagement shoot lasted about an hour and half and we finished as the sun was going down, the light combined with the fall colours made for some beautiful photos. I really enjoy engagement shoots as it gives the couple an understanding of how I shoot and allows me to learn more about the couple before I cover their big day. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding at Casa Loma in Toronto early next year!!

What the couple had to say about their engagement shoot “We love our photos!! Thank you for everything. We are most certainly very excited for the wedding now too!!! We love what you do and could not be happier. We feel so lucky to be working with such a talented photographer and person!”

Experimenting with a Neewer close up macro filter

After shooting on a variety of macro lenses over the summer it’s funny how one of my favourite macro photos wasn’t taken with a macro lens. This photo of my daughter looking out the window was shot with The Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens and an inexpensive Neewer close up macro filter. The benefit of shooting this way is you can shoot with the large aperture of your prime lens that’s not offered on many macro lenses. The photo was shot at 1/800 sec at f/2.5, with natural light. Will the quality of every shot be as sharp as a high end macro lens, probably not but if you already have a fairly decent lens a Neewer close up macro filter is a great inexpensive way to begin experimenting.

Sabrina & Andrew | Settlers Village Wedding

When I arrived at Settlers Village I walked the grounds to check out some locations for the family photos and the couple shots. The day started with the bride photos, getting ready and some single portraits. Sabrina was great fun to photograph! Settlers Village is a awesome rustic spot for a wedding, the heritage buildings looked like something out of a movie and they provided great backgrounds for the wedding photos.

What the couple had to say “Alastair was absolutely incredible! He is very flexible, willing to work with us to ensure all of our “must have” photos were taken. He is professional, replied to us in a timely manner when we had questions. He arrived early the day of our wedding to scout out great areas for pictures. He brought props (picture frames and ‘Thank You’ on a ribbon) so that we were able to have unique pictures. He was able to work with all the kids (ranging from 1.5 to 9 years) and had them smiling and having fun while capturing some precious moments! Alastair took so many pictures it was incredible! He provided quite a number online in a password protected area for us to view before the CD arrived in the mail. The pictures were beyond stunning! They were all so incredible it is extremely difficult to choose a favorite. The CD had both color and black and white of all the individually edited photos. Again, we could not decide on a favorite. ALL of them were our favorites! I HIGHLY recommend Alastair to anyone for any occasion! I know I have told all of my friends and family about him for their future weddings, pregnancy photos, new born pics, you name it! I know I will be calling him again when my husband and I are pregnant for more incredible pictures!”

Review from Toronto Island Wedding

This Toronto Island Wedding Review from a happy and satisfied bride made my day! The gorgeous bride asked that I not show her photos and of course I agreed. I can tell you they were lovely and from her review she more than agrees with me.

“I would recommend Alastair to anyone who wants magazine-quality “natural-looking” shots.

We had an outdoor wedding in the late afternoon which was very sunny, then family/ couple shots on the public beach, and then a night-time outdoor dance/ bonfire party and he managed to get every shot with optimal lighting. We even did a sparkler-send-off that he captured perfectly.

He was extremely easy to work with and low-maintenance but what really matters in the end is that our photos are perfect.

I can’t remember ever giving any vendor or service 5/5; but he deserves nothing less.”

If you are in Toronto and looking for get-away feel for your big day I would highly recommend having a Toronto Island wedding. For more reviews please check out my Wedding Wire Page.

Melodie & Julien | Kingston Wedding

This Kingston Wedding at the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area was simple yet elegant. The backdrop  for Melodie and Julien’s Kingston wedding was perfect. I really wanted to show of the natural surroundings and was lucky to have lovely weather for the wedding and portrait photos. Armed with a tub of my daughter’s favourite cereal we headed in search for some little Chicadees, our patience paid off and I was able to photograph the couple feeding the little bird. The natural light and shaded areas of the conservation area made for memorable wedding photos. I was very pleased with the photos and happily so were Melodie & Julien. Here’s what they had to say “Alastair captured exactly what we hoped for – we have a great mix of formal and candid photos. Our photos are beautiful as proven time and time again by the number of compliments we receive every time we share our photos. He is easy to get along with, flexible and creative. Additionally Alastair to quick to respond to any questions and had our edited photos done very quickly. Bonus, this high level of service came at the very competitive price point. We would choose Alastair again in a heartbeat!”

Looking forward to shooting another Kingston Wedding soon!

Amanda & Mike | Baxter Creek Golf Club

This Baxter Creek Golf Club wedding in Peterborough was simply gorgeous.  A month before the wedding we met at the Baxter Creek Golf Club to scout locations so the wedding day ran smoothly. Also, much thanks to the event coordinator at Baxter Creek Golf Club, Carolyn Westington, you were a great help!  Amanda the beautiful bride was an easy subject to shoot. The open landscape and wild flowers made a perfect summer wedding. We had a beautiful day with sunlight rays to help capture the mood. This fun couple and their friends were eager and willing to laugh and play in up which is evident in the photos. I particularly like the one where the wedding party is hitching a ride.

Below are just a few of my fav’s from Amanda and Mike’s wedding at Baxter Creek Golf Club in Peterborough that I wanted to share.

Andrea| Fall Post Wedding Creative Shoot

Gorgeous day and stunning bride made for beautiful post-creative fall wedding photography. Andrea was a beautiful bride on the day of her wedding, and equally as beautiful on this post wedding creative photo shoot, albeit a little more relaxed. This was shot just outside Courtice at her stables in the country.  The landscape colours and gorgeous horses made this a quintesential fall session. I love post creatives because there is no stress and we can be more daring without having to worry about “the dress”.  Not to mention, what bride doesn’t want the opportunity to wear her wedding dress just one more time…

Although Andrea and Frank were married in the summer, she wanted to wait until the Fall to shoot her post wedding creative. And I couldn’t have been happier! I was thrilled with the opportunity to capture the relaxed atmosphere as Andrea rode, played and posed with her beloved horses. The natural light and natural background added to the atmosphere to make this fall wedding photography shoot one of my favs!

Chrissy & Jay | Kawartha Lakes

This couple meticulously planned every detail of their big day. From the antique swing to her cowboy boots, nothing was left out. We even had a tractor to shoot with! All this planning paid off, the day and the photos were magical. Last shot of the day was a sunset wedding photo. I love to incorporate the landscape into my shots and it’s days like these that remind me just how much I love job!

Century Barn Wedding

Looking for the perfect country location? Check out these photos taken at Century Barn Wedding in Cavan, Ontario. Such a beautiful location for a country wedding. Tammy and Jeremy were an amazing couple to shoot.  They were relaxed in this country style setting, their wedding could not have been more beautiful!  It was a sunny summer day, the setting was perfect as there were numerous shaded areas where we could play with the light through the leaves and trees.

Only 30 minutes north of my hometown of Port Hope, Century Barn Wedding is a gorgeous local for your wedding. It has many nooks and crannies to help capture the country feel and flare that so many desire. Including a fire pit and horseshoe pit no less! The owner Susan is a joy to work with and I highly recommend her. Grab your mason jar filled with Lemonade or local craft beer and cheers!
